
The Medical Care Provider course provides training to mariners seeking to complete the requirements to provide medical first aid on board ships. Any student who successfully completes the training and presenting a certificate of training within 5 years to a US Coast Guard Regional Examination Center (REC) will satisfy the Medical First Aid training requirements of Section A-Vl/4 and table A-Vi/4-1 of the Seafarers' Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (SCTW) Code and 46 CFR 12.13.1.
PREREQUISITE: Completion of U.S. Coast Guard approved Elementary First Aid and CPR course or equivalent.
This course will also be of value to others who need intermediate First Aid training who may or may not operate vessels on the water who may not be seeking U.S. Coast Guard licenses, or whose experience is not up to the minumum requriements established under ideal conditions. Because of this entry standards can be adjusted to suite the particular circumstances. In most cases, studencts for each course will normally have backgrounds that meeet or exceed the ideal entry standards stated above.
